menton beachThe lovely coastal town of Menton benefits from some of the cleanest waters on the French Riviera on account of a state-of-the-art water purification system located in the bay. The Menton beaches are also scrupulously clean. Menton has a wide variety of beaches which stretch from Garavan, right on the Italian border along to Carnoles. You will find a mixture of both sandy and pebble beaches, as well as public and private beach clubs.


x Vias PlageVias Plage is a quiet beach, ideal for children and adults alike. With shallow warm waters and golden sand, this is certainly one of the best Languedoc beaches. This popular Languedoc beach is sheltered and easily accessible even in the height of summer. There is also plenty of bars and cafes behind the beach to keep you in supply with cold drinks and ice creams.

collioure beach2Collioure, with its three beaches has to be up the top of the list as the best Languedoc beach resort. Although the beaches are small and often busy, the views of the tranquil sea and Pyrennees are spectacular. You also have the wonderful town of Collioure on-hand with its restaurants, boutiques and artist trails to keep you amused. This is one of our favourite Languedoc beaches

x les issambres beach2Les Issambres is a popular destination for South of France beach holidays. Situated on the beautiful coastline of the Bay of St. Tropez, between the Mediterranean sea and the wooded hills of the Massif des Maures, Les Issambres provides 8 km of inlets and fine sandy beaches. This French Riviera resort provides a calm and tranquil holiday base and is especially popoular with the French, Scandanavian, German and British holidaymakers.  


cassisCassis is blessed with some of the most dramatic beaches in the South of France. The stretch of the French Riviera coastline between Marseille and Cassis has quite a few dull beaches, but the beautiful inlet near Cassis called Les Calanques, offers the most amazing beach in the South of France. 


le franqui365Perpignan is situated 8kms inland from the Mediterranean coast. If you are looking for the best beaches near Perpignan, then there are many to choose from, depending on your preference. To the north of Perpignan, France, the beaches tend to be wide and flat and often prone to a lot of wind. Thus beaches such as Le Franqui and Le Barcares tend to be popular with wind surfers and kite surfers. Some of the popular beach resorts near Perpignan, such as Argeles sur Mer, St Cyprien and Canet Plage tend to be more popular with families. In my opinion, the best beaches Perpignan has to offer are on the Cote Vermeille.

x Argeles plageArgeles sur Mer beach, South of France, is situated in a long sweeping bay that looks out onto the Pyrenees and the warm Mediterranean sea. Argeles Plage beach is certainly one of the best beaches in South of France and has the European blue flag award in recognition of  the quality of the water and cleanliness of the beach. Argeles-sur-Mer also boasts an interesting history and has some excellent restaurants and decent shops. 

frejus beach1 366The old Roman port town of Frejus has one of the nicest beaches on the French Riviera. Frejus beach is a lovely sandy beach located right in the heart of the town. Frejus beach provides 2kms of golden sand, stretching down to the lovely marina. The beach has a nice palm-tree lined promenade at the rear, providing stunning views out over the beach and the Bay of Saint-Raphael.


x beziers beachesThere are a number of excellent beaches surrounding the town of Beziers in South France. Beziers is located 15kms inland from the Languedoc coast. The city is located on a high rocky plain, overlooking the Orb valley down towards the beaches of the Languedoc. There are 4 main beaches near Beziers: Portirangues Plage, Serignan Plage, Valras Plage and Vias Plage. All of these Beziers beaches can be reached in 20-25 mins.

cannes 1The beaches in Cannes, France, tend to divide people into two camps. Some people love the feel of this beach right in the centre of glamorous Cannes, with its world famous film festival. Others complain about this crowded South of France beach and the quality of the sand. To be honest I am in the latter category and would recommend you make the short drive round to Theoule-sur-mer (a lovely little coastal village).


x Point zeroIf you are looking for one of the best beaches in Languedoc, then you could probably do no better than Point Zero plage in La Grande Motte. Sheltered waters safe for small children, long stretches of golden sand and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, what more could you ask for?

The Brittany coast has some lovely coves and the Vendee and the Atlantic coast between Bordeaux and Biratitz have some fantastic beaches, with great rollers excellent for surfing and wake boarding. x theoule-sur-merThéoule-sur-Mer is an idyllic small town located in a prime spot on the French Riviera between Cannes and St Tropez. French Riviera. The town is a favourite holiday destination for the rich and famous, seeking some seclusion from the crowds. Théoule-sur-Mer provides a number of public and private beaches, together with a Marina and provides the perfect base for a beach holiday in France.


plage tortueThe 30kms of Cote d'Azur coastline around Saint Raphael boasts around 30 different beaches to choose from. These vary from golden sandy beaches to rocky inlets. The beaches in the centre of St Raphael get very busy during July and August, but if you venture slightly further afield, you are sure to find a nice beach.
