roquebrun cap martinRoquebrune-Cap-Martin is a popular French Riviera vacations resort, located between Monaco and Menton. Roquebrune-Cap Martin is a medieval village perched on rocky cliffs high above the Mediterranean. Its location provides some amazing views over the coastline. In the heart of the old town, there is a Medieval castle and an impressive 12th century church and its picturesque narrow stepped-streets are great to stroll around. There are also lovely little squares and fountains and charming buildings with wrought-iron balconies.

x avignonIf I was to rank my favourite places in France to visit, outside of Paris of course, then this would be my top twenty tourist sites. I have lived in France for over 10 years and before that I have toured around France quite a bit, both on holiday and with work. I am not saying that this is a complete list of the best places in France to visit. Some places I have not been to yet, for example, Strasbourg, Lille (only the Eurostar train station), Bordeaux (yes, I know it is shameful that I haven't been there) and Grenoble; and other places are affected by my experiences there (getting my iPhone stolen in Orleans for instance). But looking through it, I think that this is a pretty good list of places to visit if you are in France on holiday.

gordesThe small village of Gordes in Provence, France, perched on top of a cliff above the valley of Calavon is one of the most charming Provence towns to visit. The Mediterranean climate and relaxed pace of life in Gordes create the perfact vacation environment. It is quite easy to spend the whole day doing nothing much: wandering the winding streets, leisurely taking coffee at a cafe and watching the world slowly go by, spending hours over a good meal in one of the many restaurants and watching the spectacular sunsets over the lavender fields in the valley below.
