This large tranquil 18th century country house in Languedoc-Roussillon was a former water mill. The outside of this large country house in Languedoc Roussillon is a paradise, with a private swimming pool, hot tub, river front, and waterfall on 10 acres of secluded land. This South of France country house with pool is set in picturesque surroundings, located 2km from the market town of St-Jean-du-Gard. The West Mill country house in Languedoc Roussillon provides comfortable accommodation for 6-12 people, although this large spacious house has enough sleeping quarters for up to 17 adults and children. If you are looking for a large South of France country house in Languedoc Roussillon with a pool, then you can not do much better than the West Mill. Conveniently located to explore the sites of Languedoc, Provence and the South of France, this accommodation is perfectly set up for entertaining a large group.
Country house Languedoc Roussillon - Facilities:
This large South of France country house can comfortably sleep 6-12 but it has enough beds to sleep up to 17. The West Mill is comprised of the following rooms:
The kitchen is large and well-equipped. It is fitted with modern appliances including an oven, a professional gas stove, a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and a full sized refrigerator/freezer with integrated ice-maker. It is fully equipped with utensils, cookware, plates and cutlery.
The dining room comes complete with a working fireplace, full-length farmer''s table with ten chairs, and a bar area with three stools.
The large living room has a double sofa bed and working fireplace. There is a phone, TV, VCR, Stereo and CD. There is wifi and a laptop so you can check emails while you are there.
The West Mill has 6 bedrooms in total, providing comfortable accommodation for 6-12 people, with additional sleeping for up to 17:
- Yellow Bedroom with 1 double bed and 1 single bed
- Blue Bedroom with 1 double bed
- Lavender Bedroom with 1 double bed and 1 futon
- Orange Bedroom with 1 smaller double bed
- Red Bedroom with 1 single bed
- Beige Bedroom with 2 single beds. This is a loft room with restricted standing height. The room is suitable for older children.
The West Mill has three bathrooms (one bathroom has a separate room just for the toilet and another seperate room for a sink, so there is always a toilet and sink free even if everyone is using all three showers!
The West Mill country house in Languedoc Roussillon also features a Hot Tub overlooking the river and a private Swimming Pool. Outside there is also a Charcoal Grill (BBQ). There is also a garage with space for car parking.

Last visited September 2009. This large South of France country house in Languedoc Roussillon is ideal if you want to find self-catering holiday rental accommodation with a swimming pool in the South of France to accommodate a large group. The West Mill would make a perfect location for entertaining a large extended family or a group of friends. St Jean du Gard is conveniently located to explore the sites of Languedoc Roussillon and the South of France. The accommodation offers an idyllic setting in the beautiful South of France countryside. A wonderful vacation destination.

'We loved the house. It suited us very well; a big party of adults and young people with not much taste for bright lights and a talent for building dams and lying around in hammocks. The house is quirky, and definitely not ritzy, but somehow it absorbed us all and it just worked - bathrooms, kitchens, garden, eating, cooking, different bed times, different waking up times - everything. Swimming - Take a dip in the pool in the back yard or wander down to the river and jump in. The West Mill (Le Moulin Ouest) is located on the Gardon River which is famous for its beauty and swimming holes. The river near the mill is particularly wide and ideal for swimming and sun bathing.
Hiking - France is known for its hiking and walking and this particular region is famous for the large number of paths and unspoiled beauty. There are numerous paths to choose from and for your convenience there is a a local guide book at the house for detailed routes. Also you can start from the West Mill because one of the local paths is near the property.
Cycling - With the Cevenes mountains at your doorstep there is wonderful road and mountain biking in the area. Most years the Tour de France goes near the house.
Fishing - The Gardon on the propery is great for fishing, particularly trout. There are 2 fishing poles at the property for your use should you wish to give it a go. In France there is a law that says you must have a fishing license which you can get at the St-Jean-du-Gard hardware store but I have never been asked for mine.
Canoeing and rafting - There is great canoeing and rafting in the area. I have enjoyed rafting on the river just in front of the West Mill. Florac has world famous white water rafting with many companies that you can rent a raft from.
Horseback riding - There is horesback riding near the West Mill and also near the Mediterranean in the Camargue Beaches. There are many signs along the road for companies offering horseback riding.
Eating and relaxing - You are in France. Rest and relaxation are a requirement!
Pont-du-Gard (40 minutes E), is an amazing ancient Roman aqueduct. You can not fully appreciate its size until you are standing next to it. How did they build that? If there is nothing else you see while you are at the West Mill you should not miss this.
The Camargue Beaches (70 minutes S), some of the most unspoiled beachs on the Mediterranean. One port you might choose to go to is Aigues-Mortes. You can see wild horses and pink flamingos on these beaches. Great place for horse back riding.
The Gorges du Tarn - on the way to Florac. Very beautiful gorges with a riven in the middle. A smaller French version of a US's Grand Canyon in Arizon except there are homes on the edge.
Restaurants - La Ferme de Cornadel, Anduze - One of my favorites. They have a fantastic appetizer sampler that is amazing, but save room for the dessert sampler - 3 scrumptious desserts all on one plate. I also particularly like the decor and atmosphere of this restaurant. (20 minute drive near Anduze)
To make a booking a deposit for this South of France country house, 50% of the total holiday cost is due. Then 2 months before the start of the holiday the balance of the cost plus a returnable damage deposit of 1,000 Euros is due.
From Nimes Airport:(50 minutes to house) Upon leaving the airport, follow the signs for Centre Ville. However, do not go all the way into Nimes. Just after the football stadium you will go around a roundabout. Follow the signs for Ales. This will put you on the N106 for about 20 minutes and look for signs for Anduze. There will be other towns listed on these signs. Take the Anduze exit off the N106 and follow the round into Anduze. (see directions from Anduze below).
From Montpellier: (1:30 to house) Take the A9 East Motorway to the N113 following signs towards Sommieres and Ales. Follow the N113 to the N110 towards Ales. After Sommieres, stay on the N110 and follow signs for Ales and then Anduze. (see directions from Anduze below.)
